Steve O. Harvey ruled. I met him when I first started palling around with Chicago comedians back in 2006. He was one of the few comedians that always seemed to be having fun no matter what. He never talked shit, never bitched about anything, and never had a negative attitude. He would laugh at everything. He always “got” the bit. You felt like he knew you right away. Everyone in the comedy scene loved him and got excited whenever he was in the room. He never brought any of his shit with him. Even if he was having a shit day, he’d put that aside to make sure we all had fun.
He became a regular co-host on Red Bar and we fucking loved him. I remember always being in the best mood when I saw his name on the calendar. I new it was going to be a fun show that day. I got into it with everyone back then, but never once with Steve. You couldn’t even get close to wanting to fight with him about anything. He was there to bring a good time.
Every episode with Steve O. was a good one. Every single one.
I got to my desk today and the news of his passing was the first thing I saw. It hit me hard. I’m crying the same way I did when I put my dog down. I know whenever somebody dies people pretend they were “the best.” This motherfucker WAS the best. You won’t find a person on the planet that’ll tell you different.
LONG LIVE STEVE O. – LONG LIVE LAR’!
I’ll be posting every Red Bar episode with Steve O. Harvey throughout the month. It’s all gold. Here’s a random one from 2007:
